A similar comparison between Southern and Central European countries/regions Synchronise TOCPreviousNext

The SUNflower methodology is adopted by three Southern and three Central European countries/regions to evaluate their road safety activities, and compare safety records and progress. Risk indicators, that have used before for the SUN countries or developed during the course of SUNflower+6, can be used as comparators against which to benchmark their performance in different aspects of road safety, taking into account the characteristics of the different national problems.

The comparison of the Southern and Central countries will draw heavily on the methodology already developed.  But the conditions in both groups of countries are significantly different from the SUN countries, and therefore an extension and enhancement of the methodology is expected to encompass this wide range of situations.

Case studies by the Southern and Central group will address the following topics that have been covered by the SUN countries in the SUNflower project:

  • Drinking & driving
  • Seatbelts
  • Low cost engineering measures

Furthermore, in parallel to the Extended SUN study, the following case studies will be carried out:

  • Pedestrians
  • Cyclists
  • Speed management
  • Novice drivers
