Availability of appropriate data will be a key factor in these comparisons. The first task (feasibility study) will therefore be to assess the statistics available at national level to describe the traffic safety situation in 2000/2002 (as in Chapter 3 of the first SUNflower report), and to enable the exploration of the case study topics addressed in SUNflower (seat belt wearing, drinking and driving, urban, and interurban networks).

Following this assessment, a more detailed task schedule will be developed to define the extent of the analysis in each topic. An important part of this will be to define what actions need to be taken to establish relevant indicators for which data are not currently available in any of the countries.
